MFW 15 – Ritienne Zammit ~ L-Omm li Tatna Isimha!

Tonight’s fashion show was presented at the Grand Master’s Palace in Valletta. A great location with an amazing backdrop for a truly unique & Maltese collection.

This was the last fashion show I could attend for the Mercedez Benz Fashion Week Malta and I’m so glad I did. I was very curious and looking forward to see what Ritienne Zammit was coming up with this time. And I must say, I was truly impressed.

‘L-Omm li Tatna Isimha’ (translated to ‘the mother who gave us her name’ – which is a line from the lyrics of the Maltese National Anthem by Dun Karm Psaila) collection for AW15 was inspired by poems and other quotes from Maltese patriots and poets including Dun Karm Psaila and Manwel Dimech. Some pieces even featured actual printed images of said personalities. A printed human heart also made an appearance on some pieces, in my opinion representing the love and gratitude for our identity, language, beliefs…and our country.

With the use of unusual textures and different fabrics in these outfits, Ritienne managed to transmit a powerful message and her love for Maltese heritage. Though some pieces may be a little bit daring and not quite wearable, most items could be incorporated with a simple garment to create a subtle look.

I could not wish for a more perfect ending to my fashion week. Well done Ritienne!

IMG_0013//  Il-‘fashion show’ tal-lejla saret fil-Palazz tal-Gran Mastru, l-Belt Valletta. Sfond mill-aqwa għal kollezzjoni tassew unika u Maltija.

Din kienet l-aħħar ‘fashion show’ li stajt nattendi għall-‘Mercedez Benz Fashion Week Malta’ u ħadt gost li stajt immur. Kont kurjuża ħafna u ħerqana biex nara biex kienet ħierġa did-darba Ritienne Zammit. U nista ngħid, li verament impressjonatni.

Il-kollezzjoni “L-Omm Li Tatna Isimha” (silta mill-lirika tal-Innu Nazzjonali Malti ta’ Dun Karm Psaila) għall-ħarifa/xitwa 2015 kienet ispirata minn poeżiji u kwotazzjonijiet oħra minn patrijotti u poeti Maltin, fosthom Dun Karm u Manwel Dimech. Fuq xi biċċiet anke dehru stampati ritratti attwali ta’ dawn il-personalitajiet. Stampa tal-qalb tal-bniedem dehret fuq xi biċċiet ukoll, fil-fehma tiegħi tirrappreżenta l-imħabba u l-gratitudni għall-identità tagħna, il-lingwa, t-twemmin … u pajjiżna.

Bl-użu ta’ tessuti mhux tas-soltu u drappijiet differenti Ritienne irnexxielha tittrasmetti messaġġ qawwi u l-imħabba tagħha għall-wirt Malti. Għalkemm xi biċċiet ghal xi wħud, jistgħu jidhru xi ftit avventuruzi biex jintlibsu, ħafna biċċiet mill-kollezzjoni jistgħu jiġu inkorporati ma’ lbies sempliċi biex joħolqu dehera aktar sottili.

Ma stajtx nixtieq tmiem aktar perfett għal din il-ġimgħa ta’ moda. Prosit Ritienne!
